Jeff Wall Production
Submission Declined

Forthcoming: 23 April, 2026

Submission Declined presents the unapproved Wikipedia page submission for Jeff Wall Production, a conceptual label instigated by Pierre Bal-Blanc. From inception to legacy, this text serves as a performative gesture of resistance to institutional protocols of authorship and the dynamics of audience engagement. A lexicon and history of Bal-Blanc’s practice, Submission Declined is a mirror held up to encyclopedic authority. It supplies the very evidence of ‘notability’ that the Wikipedia system demands, staging its own entry into legitimacy by becoming the reference it was once denied.

Jeff Wall Production is a conceptual brand initiated by curator and essayist Pierre Bal-Blanc (b. 1965, Ugine, France). Bal-Blanc’s practice interrogates institutional dispositifs and expanded histories of performance art. Between 2003 to 2014 he led CAC Brétigny, a public art center in the suburbs of Paris. In 2017, he served as the curator of documenta 14.

He has also curated exhibitions at institutions including Tate Modern, Berlin Biennale, Secession, Palais de Tokyo, and the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. Bal-Blanc has long engaged with the Kontakt Collection, focusing on conceptual artists from Central and Southeastern Europe. He is based between Athens and Ugine, where he lives and works.
